Good and bad observations: When using a relative new 15 GByte hard drive (vendor IBM) with the wd0 driver the HD-led never turned off, even without disk activity. With the ata driver the hard drive led works as expected. When running a "make buildworld" i had the impression that all went very fast. The ata driver claims to use DMA .. This was on my box at home ... At work i cant get the ata driver to work with my ide-zip drive and mtools. The box has a scsi controller and the zip drive as master on wdc0 wdc0 at port 0x1f0-0x1f7 irq 14 on isa0 wdc0: unit 0 (atapi): <IOMEGA ZIP 100 \ ATAPI/23.D>, removable, intr, iordis wfd0: medium type unknown (no disk) wfd0: buggy Zip drive, 64-block transfer limit set when the ata driver is active, i.e. "mdir z:" ("/dev/rafd0s4") leads to ZIP drive activity, but it fails on reading partition information (was also mentioned earlier in this group from others). --- Fritz Heinrichmeyer mailto:fritz.heinrichmeyer@fernuni-hagen.de FernUniversitaet Hagen, LG ES, 58084 Hagen (Germany) tel:+49 2331/987-1166 fax:987-355 http://ES-i2.fernuni-hagen.de/~jfh To Unsubscribe: send mail to majordomo@FreeBSD.org with "unsubscribe freebsd-current" in the body of the message
