for me it helped (on a n505x) to force the card into vibra 16x mode
via setting:

  f |= BD_F_SB16X;

after the end of the case clause around line 350 of sbc.c (something
like:

        switch (logical_id) {
        case 0x43008c0e:        /* CTL0043 */
                f |= BD_F_SB16X;
                break;
	}
	f |= BD_F_SB16X;

then) - maybe this works for me - this at least gives me 16 bit
sound on my vaio - good luck
