Hello all!

I have been trying to install freebsd on a (old!) alpha machine. It is a
Digital 3000 Model 300LX. It has a tape device, 2 hard disks (500Mb and 2Gb), a
cd-rom and nic.
It has been difficult because the machine has no floppy drive and the cd player
seems to have a hard time reading the cd's I have made with boot.flp for alpha.
CD's made with the same recording procedure work on the x86 platform.
The machine has DEC OSF/1 installed and this would be an excelent time to
change it to FreeBSD. This is primarily a pop server and it would be nice to
start introducing FreeBSD in all machines we have in this platform.
We don't have any other machine with the kind of tapes this one is using, so
using the tape doesn't seem possible.
The machine has SRM console firmware installed. It is not the last version, but
it is 1 year old. We did this update with cd-rom supplied by Digital.

Do you guys have an idea of how this installation could be done ? Has anyone
installed FreeBSD on this kind of machine with success ?
Has anyone tried some kind of network installation using SRM console features ?

I also tried an OpenBSD 2.4 cd-rom I have. Kernel stops with some kind error
about scc0 (isn't this the console ?)

If anyone has any sugestion, please say something.

Thanks!

Joao Pedras
