# ranlib libwhatever.a
ranlib: libwhatever.a: Invalid argument

I did a sup and make world yesterday.

Then today I was building an app (happened to be SSLeay) and when it
went to do a ranlib libcrypto.a I got the error message
ranlib: libcrypto.a: Invalid argument

Other apps that I have tried to build, such as Jim Lowe's multimedia
stuff now suffer the same fate.

What has gone awry?
