Once upon a time I hacked up sh to add a version of -x output which looked more like an interactive session, but eventually decided it wasn't worth maintaining. It's not like -x output is all that unusable; it's just not as "pretty" --- but it also provides more information, which can be useful when trying to diagnose problems.
