 I have something very similar.
 This has started in MAY-2012.
 I haven't filled a PR because I'm using
a custom pci.c patch, provided by John Baldwin
(because my BIOS is apparently broken),
so I thought this issue is somehow related,
but now I think that maybe not.

 Anyway,

 1. This is amd64 laptop, HP Compaq 6715s, now at r245111M.
This is important because the PR has been assigned to i386.
I think this has to be reviewed.

 2. My first report of the issue is at:
 http://lists.freebsd.org/pipermail/freebsd-current/2012-May/034339.html
 This is a long thread.

 3. John's patch, provided to fix my broken BIOS, is
towards the beginning of this thread:
 http://lists.freebsd.org/pipermail/freebsd-current/2012-May/033598.html

 4. I still cannot boot without this patch.

 5. So my sound works fine until I start X.
For example I can do hear sound by sending
some data to /dev/dsp, or I can play CD fine.
As soon as I start X, the sound is gone,
 and I get lots of:

 It doesn't matter how I start X, e.g. just xdm(1),
or even X -config /root/xorg.conf.new, as soon as I start
it, the sound doesn't work until reboot.

 9. Finally, perhaps this is only complicating things further,
but X itself is quite broken. My old report:
 http://lists.freebsd.org/pipermail/freebsd-x11/2012-June/012100.html

Basically about the top quarter of the screen is not updated.
The exact behaviour depends on the program, e.g. I might
have xterm working correctly, but firefox and pdf not,
and seemingly on the acceleration options (XAA vs EXA),
 but it never is fine.
