I'm not sure why this dodgy data is being sent - I've heard lots of 
reports like this.  However, that in itself isn't the cause of your 
failed connection...

How about enabling some more logging to find out what the problem is 
?  Check out the FAQ at http://www.FreeBSD.org/FAQ/ppp.html.
