I changed xterm to xterm-color in /etc/ttys, restarted init, went into X, and 'echo $TERM' did not show xterm-color. However, I did TERM=xterm-color and it worked. The thing that really bugs me about ls is the lack of bright colors like you get with gnuls. The blue is so dark it blends in with the black background of the console. I spent several hours looking through the code to see if I could change that, but alas I did not understand it :-(. And, sorry to rant, but the default colors are horrid, too! Do 'ls -G /dev' to see what I mean.
