there were several "references" to "firmware" in the several comments about the "stop the blob" campaign. i wish i knew the real difference between firmware and software. i had previously thought firmware was a program which was 'burned' into a read-only-memory and was used to control some electronic hardware operated by a microprocessor. one example might be what controls a motherboard in a computer - such as the BIOS. are these comments discussing various programs which are components of a software system?
