While I'd like to guess which platform you are using, which version of clamd, etc, my crystal ball is being repaired-- you'll have to provide a bit more information.

Anyway, if the crashes are readily reproducible, either run clamd under gdb or make arrangements for it to dump core for subsequent debugging.
