Well, the way -we- use it is we stick the serial ports on a cisco terminal server in the lab, and then just connect to the terminal server instead of having to deal with stupid hardwired ports. Someone (Torek?) did a kgdb tunnel that basicly lets you use a second BSD box as a similar device, but it's really unnecessary and overly specific given that gdb has had tcp support for years, it just wasn't linked in by default.
