Oracle and Apple Announce OpenJDK Project for OSX; Java SE 7 and 8 JSRs
Approved

d=3D3-2961338464txt

Good news all around! Oracle and Apple announced the OpenJDK project for=20
Mac OS X. Apple will contribute most of the key components, tools and=20
technology required for a Java SE 7 implementation on Mac OS X,=20
including a 32-bit and 64-bit HotSpot-based Java virtual machine, class=20
libraries, a networking stack and the foundation for a new graphical=20
client. OpenJDK will make Apple's Java technology available to open=20
source developers so you can access and contribute to the effort.

=46urthermore, the JCP Executive Committe has approved the JSR "quartet"=20
for Java SE 7 and Java SE 8. With this ratification, the Java standard=20
will progress through the JCP while the open source reference=20
implementation will be delivered through the OpenJDK project. See you on=20
OpenJDK!
