Reminds me that I have seen this kind of errors occasionally when a 
dependency is located on another CD of the set than is inserted.

Since Kapteyn is located in nl: www.tienpiek.net has Linux and FreeBSD 
CD's for only 10 dutch guilders. However, I think you will get only the
first CD of the set there (the iso-image that can be downloaded), which
means that you won't get the packages that might be necessary for you to
complete the KDE installation. So, that leaves the original set as a 
solution or trying via ftp (what went wrong there exactly?).

FWIW, although I have a subscription on the CD set I prefer to install
software via ports through a modem, since playing CD-jockey with the
four CD's is driving me nuts...
