I'm trying to build a new system on which to run FreeBSD. It consists of: Asus P3V4X motherboard Pentium II 233MHz 64MB RAM Seagate ST34313A, 4.3GB hard drive CD-ROM (generic, gets detected w/out problem) SMC 8416T 10 Mbps ethernet I'm able to boot up off the 4.0 CD-ROM and get started. Actually, sometimes the process hands at "detecting devices" (this is usually if I do a kernel config at startup). Anyway, I'm usually able to start the install process and I get through choosing distributions and then the install will hang at: Writing partition information to drive ad0 when I switch over to the console I see: ad0: WRITE command timeout ata0: Resetting I know the drive is ATA66 compatible but I've tried the install with both 40-pin and 80-pin cables. I've also tried setting the drive to LBA mode and also manually setting it to UDMA2 to try and avoid any ATA66 issues. Looking through past messages I've seen some ATA66 issues but they don't apply here. As I said, I've tried manually setting the drive to ATA33 but still no luck. Any thoughts, suggestions on how to proceed? Should I try the install through FTP instead of using my CD?
