I think I got a little ahead of myself yesterday on our secondary MX
machine.

For some "dumb!" reason I created a local-host-names file and put the main
domain name in there, so naturally, sendmail was trying to deliver local.
Once I deleted that file mail is flowing to the main mail server just fine.
