ipfw(8)'s been updated to include keep-state/check-state.  It's not, by
any means, a complete, easy to understand reference...  but I did manage
to get my LAN up and going with only it as reference (lost the URL to the
previouslly mentioned FreeBSD site when I was setting up ipfw).
