The following reply was made to PR ports/59901; it has been noted by GNATS. From: Colin Percival <colin.percival@wadham.ox.ac.uk> To: freebsd-gnats-submit@FreeBSD.org Cc: security-officer@freebsd.org Subject: Re: ports/59901: [MAINTAINER UPDATE] security/freebsd-update 1.5 Date: Tue, 02 Dec 2003 15:48:17 +0000 Given that people installing from the 5.2-RELEASE images will, by definition, have copies of the official binaries, I think this update can probably wait until the ports tree freeze is over. However, some people have argued (both at BSDCon, and over email) that allowing people who have made local modifications (ie, recompiled) to use FreeBSD Update is imperative. I'll leave it to those people to decide if they want to argue for this to be included sooner. Colin Percival http://www.freebsd.org/cgi/query-pr.cgi?pr=59901
