With the new slice scheme in newer FreeBSD versions you have to create them explicitely: sh MAKEDEV sd0s1a or da0s1a in even newer FreeBSD versions (>=3.0) Make sure, that raw devices (rsd0s1a) are created as well. But as Ladavac wrote, you should know, where you typed this command... If you clobbered /etc, then you have to do a lot of more things. Best would then be to make a boot and fixit disk for your system and restore things from backup if you have a backup ...
