it would help if you tell us the what are the actual problems and/or
error messages w/ the modem or the sound card.  what/how were you
trying to configure that gave you grief?

i don't have any experience w/ the mentioned sound card.  modem,
however, from the dmesg looks like, should just work ...  unless
it's a software modem.  speaking of which, what do you have for "sio"
in your kernel.  for example, i have...

# Serial (COM) ports
# sio0/com1 -- 9-pin serial port on dell inspiron 5000e
# sio2/com3 is winmodem
device          sio0    at isa? port IO_COM1 flags 0x10 irq 4
#device         sio1    at isa? port IO_COM2 irq 3
device          sio2    at isa? disable port IO_COM3


...and, if possible, please do not wrap the computer generated
messages like dmesg output below.
