I wondered that too, but I was concerned with the issue behind keeping
the root partition within the first 1024 cylinders (I'm looking in
Lehey's book, 1st edition).  Perhaps that doesn't apply anymore due to
the advancement of BIOSs?

I agree.  As I said before, I had no trouble installing/using FreeBSD
with the previous WD drive.

Thanks for your help... I think I'm off to the store (Wednesday) to swap
this drive out.
