Are you saying 4.17 is better than 4.18 for debugging C++?  Or are you
saying you didn't know FreeBSD comes with gdb:

    $ which gdb
    gdb is hashed (/usr/bin/gdb)
    $ gdb --version
    GNU gdb 4.18
    Copyright 1998 Free Software Foundation, Inc.
    ...
