Lots of people would be happy.  Many have started to support this.
Few have succeeded.

It would be nice to allow the current behavior, but the default should
be one giant keyboard with many hands.  I know people that have made
multi-headed systems that need to be able to have the current
behavior, but by far the most common case would be to make them all
live at the same time...
