Too late! ;-)

Once I got the box up and running again (rebuilt kernel without device agp,
reinstalled nvidia-driver without WITH_FREEBSD_AGP=3Dyes, prevent loading of
agp.ko on boot), I also needed to alter the XFree86 config file - my card
(an integrated NV15 nForce2) seems to return a slightly different BoardName
string when probed, which makes X choke. Amending the value in the
BoardName directive to match the probed value fixed it for me, so be aware
of this, as well, if X won't start for you...

The correct value can be found in the error logfile dropped as X dies.
