I recently got a PCI Lucent modem (or linmodem) to run in FreeBSD 4.3 beta 2. That PCI modem is the Dynalink PCI Card 56k model 1456VQH-T2 modem card. This website has files with '.ko' Lucent modem drivers: http://www.geocities.com/wtnbkysh/ The /dev/MAKEDEV script had to be edited and then run, and then kldload could be run, and then ppp ran. The modem seemed to run OK for browsing, but when the card was stress tested with a TCP packet emitting program, it returned 'panic page fault in kernel mode' errors. One message that would appear maybe every ten minutes if the machine was also doing something else, was "kernel trap 12 with interrupts disabled". Also under that testing in FreeBSD 4.3 beta 2, the Lucent winmodem (or the setup) could not transport more data per second than a 33kbaud ISA Rockwell chipset modem card I have. That's in a 150MHz PC. To get it running, I ignored most of the 'wtnbkysh' instructions on recompiling and the MAKEDEV script was edited, and then run, and then kldload was run to load the downloaded '.ko' driver file. No compiling was needed. Anybody know if the kernel mode page faults are going to be fixed? (maybe integrated into the kernel?: I saw some ltmdm code in the /usr/src directory of 4.3b2).
