Hello, I'm trying to install a modem in my FreeBSD 2.2.6 machine, and I can't seem to get it to work. For ease, I have disabled the on-board comports on the motherboard. (FreeBSD detected them properly as sio0 and sio1). The modem is setup as COM2 via the dip switches. Doing a dmesg | grep "sio" I see that sio0 is not detected (makes sense, I disabled it) and sio1 is found as a 16550A, IRQ3, etc. This seems right for a modem on COM2. I issued some MAKEDEV commands as described in the handbook, but I still can't get it. I have the following devices: sio1 cuaa1 cua1 ttyp1 cuaia1 cuala1 This com port addressing scheme is a bit confusing, but I kind of understand it. Basically I just need to be able to echo AT commands directly to the modem, but everything I've tried has failed: echo atdt<my_other_phone_line> > /dev/sio1 echo atdt<my_other_phone_line> > /dev/cuaa1 echo atdt<my_other_phone_line> > /dev/cua1 and none of these has resulted in my phone ringing! I have turned on the modem speaker (ATM1L3), I don't hear that, and I don't hear the modem click as it picks up the line...so something's not quite right. What's the proper way to install this thing? Thanks much, -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- Adam Maloney | Web Site Design Systems Administrator | Web Hosting Internet Exposure | Database Powered Web Sites [612] 922.3126 | Advertising and Promotion adam@iexposure.com | Email, FTP, Dial-Up Access ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- INTERNET PRODUCT EMPOWERMENT CORPORATION -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- To Unsubscribe: send mail to majordomo@FreeBSD.org with "unsubscribe freebsd-questions" in the body of the message
