I've recently changed to FreeBSD 5.3 from Gentoo linux.

It looks like FreeBSD outperforms gentoo.

I feel 'some' KDE applications runs at least 3 times faster on
FreeBSD. ( gentoo was even prelinked)

However, Disk IO seems too slow compare to linux.

What makes FreeBSD so fast? Why is disk io slower? How can I make it faster?
