It depends. For example if the ports represents end-product (window manager for
example), then there should be little or no reason to tweak stable and devel
version to allow them live side by side. However, if the port is a library, and
there are some ports in the tree that may work only with devel version of this
port then you have to tweak devel port to allow it to co-exist on the same
machive with the stable version.
