Thanks for your help Jordan. The problem ended up being a conflict
with some gooey BIOS feature tromping on the config port for the 3c509.
(something around 0x110)

My hat off to you and the effort that the FreeBSD team has obviously
put into polish on this OS. While I generally find a graphic interface
to install more of a hinderance than a help, there was good thought
put into making sysinstall very useful. I can't imagine what some
of these people are complaining about. After being on NetBSD for the
past ~3 years, I am looking forward to seeing what all the fuss is 
about with FreeBSD. :)

I had two nits, (barely worth mentioning). 
1. It would be nice to have 'ping' on the boot.flp.
2. Could not seem to mount the fixit.flp.
