Subject:   best filesystem performance for a laptop? (based on -hackers thread)

There was a recent thread on filesytems on hackers, and i'd like to winnow
out the chaff and figure out what is the best set of parameters for a laptop
system.  What is the best combination for a basic workstation setup?  With
or without softupdates, and with or without write-caching?
