Unless you configured and interface in there you should be OK.

Wrong, it's fine.  It should sa

ppp ON systemname>

where 'systemname' is the name of the system returned by the 'hostname'
command.

The network configuration can be tuned from /etc/rc.conf.

Note that you should not set the NIS domainname.
