The aic driver is known to not always work correctly. If i were you, i'd see to obtain an old AHA-1540 (B or C) instead, which has a much better chance of working. Prices for these old cards are usually lower than the shipping costs. Or if you want a controller that can drive the bus quite a bit faster, and you've got a PCI slot to spare, buy an old Symbios Logic 53c810-based controller.
