| I know I just posted this question a couple of days ago, but I thought
| I'd try one more time. I needed support for Java 1.1 and have loaded
| Netscape 4.06 from current. At the same time I loaded the Windows
| version of Netscape 4.06 for the Windows '98 crowd. The windows version
| seems to be fine, but on the BSD machines, all the java oriented pages
| are garbled. Pictures paint ok, but any text appears as junk. It's
| almost as if the text is compacted vs. using the entire line. I've
| played around with various font settings for encoding and width fonts
| with no luck. Even just brining up the Java Console I see the same
| thing.

Note: If Java applets fail to display. Type this as root:
                cd /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/misc
                /usr/X11R6/bin/mkfontdir
                chmod 444 fonts.dir
And then exit and restart your X server.

This might take care of your problem.
