   I'd suggest doing it the other way around.  Make it *disabled* by 
default and add a build option to enable it easily.  That way nobody gets 
the unpleasant surprise of having a user edit their mailbox by accident, 
but the full functionality is a build switch away.

   That seems to be much more in-line with the consensus opinion...
