I have tried it on JDK 1.1.7 on Solaris and got the same results.  JDK
1.3.0-RC works fine.  Compiled with jikes in both cases.  You may want
to try the IBM Linux JDK 1.1.8 if you really need to stick to 1.1. 
Otherwise 1.2-1.3 might be better, the JITs are much better anyway.
