Why is the broadcast address set to 192.168.1.1? It should be 255..Try
ifconfig vx 192.168.1.1 netmask 255.255.255.0

Here's what mine look like

ep0: flags=8843<UP,BROADCAST,RUNNING,SIMPLEX,MULTICAST> mtu 1500
        inet 10.10.0.1 netmask 0xffffff00 broadcast 10.10.0.255
        ether 00:20:af:69:82:bf

Also here's a good link to help http://www.freebsd.org/tutorials/ppp/ppp.html
