It can be done under Linux, see http://www.torque.net/linux-pp.html (I
even managed to get Linux *booting* from the SparQ drive).  AFAIK it
can't be done under FreeBSD but you're welcome to prove me wrong.

PS. No kidding about the SparQ being a piece of crap, mine just spat
the dummy a few days ago, crunching into my Windows 95 SparQ disk. 
Poetic justice maybe but that's another story.
