I go with the former :) I suppose the only way to verify is by asking other people to try this out. Install latest png Port. Then install the ImageMagik package off ftp.freebsd.org. Worst that could happen is that the newer port is overwritten, so you force pkg_delete the 2 packages listed in /var/db/pkg and install the newer png port again. (This is what I ended up doing) Just a note for those who are willing to try this: The ImageMagik package depends on more than just the png package. I've experienced this also when using 4.0-STABLE.
