`no X stuff' means Netscape's out.  Try the popclient port.  Go to
http://www.freebsd.org/ports/mail.html and look for `popclient-3.0b6'.
It's a command-line pop2 and pop3 client.  Works great.  I've been using it
on my FreeBSD box at home for months now.
