I didn't find any information in "man pts" (yes, it DOES exist!), and the terminal entries mentioned in /etc/ttys are not of pts type, there are only tty[pqrs] and tty[PQRS], no pts<number>. Another thing to mention is that terminals launched in X will work using the pts infrastructures.
