IMO you shouldn't consider it.  Cisco will probably support this protocol
for years.  Even if they "abandon" it, it will still be supported because
there are already sites with thousands of phone that aren't going to
upgrade on a whim.  I believe it should go in.  If at some point in the
future it is actually gone from real use, then it can be removed.
