Your ICMPs are indeed getting sent to the loopback; the IP code then discovers that the packets are not intended for this machine, and since they came through the loopback, they are dropped. If you had looked at this key statistic from `netstat -p ip': 21362 packets not forwardable ...you would have seen it increasing one for every packet sent by your pinging. -GAWollman -- Garrett A.
