Hm.  I can't say I've run into the same behavior.  I've done an ftp
install using a custom URL, however it was over an Ethernet link and not
over ppp, and it worked fine.

:-)

Good luck looking at the sysinstall sources, they're pretty tangled last
I poked at them. Keep your chainsaw handy.
