If I remember correctly, there was no configuration screen. I did a little chinking and decided that the best way to install CUPS was to only install cups-base place the ppd file in the cups/ppd directory and add the printer. Bingo - it all works fine. For gnome - who needs all that complicated windows stuff anyway? I use fluxbox and am quite happy with that. Just stick to the British army motto: KISS - Keep It Simple, Stupid!
