Rick, I can reproduce your problem on my hardware. If I understand
correctly, you use digital connection to speakers and in 'digital'
mode there are some analog signal on 'digital I/O' jack making
digital signal too distorted.

It looks like a bug in DSP routing code (for shure) and AC97 codec 
interaction (maybe). I wonder why it worked before, in 7-BETA3 (will try 
to reproduce it later).
