One further note.
Fdisk makes (Unix) slices (the same as DOS *primary* partitions); disklabel 
actually makes (Unix) partitions (subdivisions within a slice).

Unix partitions (within a slice) resemble, in a way, DOS logical partitions 
(within an extended partition).
