Didn't you send this message a while back?  No useful replies?

I'd be suspicious of the Adaptec 1505.  Do you have the possibility of
trying it with some other host adapter?

Also, Exabytes are notorious for having strange configurations.  You
might like to check the Exabyte web site (http://www.exabyte.com/) and
check out the revision codes.
