    I only run -current, so I can't speak authoritatively WRT your
specific situation, but...  Once upon a time, I observed symptoms
very similar to what you describe when using the Linux rvplayer.
Then, a number of commits were made to the Linux emulator and the
two sound drivers in the -current tree (by Amancio Hasty and Luigi
Rizzo, if I recall correctly), and suddenly the rvplayer began to
work Just Fine.  I don't believe these changes were backported to
-stable (but I might be wrong)...  The answer to your problem may
just be to wait a week or two and upgrade to 3.0-RELEASE, or just
go -current now, if you Just Can't Wait :-)
