But some of the information you provided in your answer is fallacious :

That ain't necessarily so.

I agree with what others have said in this thread; the manpage isn't there
to tell you what an IP address is, or what an alias is, so if that's the root
of the OP's problem, then the manpage isn't the place to fix it I'm afraid.
However, since he's failed to reply to my question with anything other than
another question, I suggest we kill this thread here until he does.
