There is some limited support for this in current via tha atacontrol
command.  I'm not sure what the MFC status is.  I've had reasionable
success with booting with the CD/DVD drive installed and then pulling it
and inserting a floppy (since they detect even if they aren't there.)
As long as you don't access the non-existant ATA drive it seems to be
OK, but I rather doubt this is recommended and a little forgetfulness
leads to crashes this way.

add the following line to /boot/loader.conf:

hw.ata.atapi_dma=3D1

and reboot.  If the machine doesn't crash when you access the device
you're good. ;-)

There's an ongoing effort to write an IrDA stack in netgraph, but
progress has been slow, at least in public.
