Ok, I've actually tested it now and it works with all the devices I
checked.  For the record, I reviewed earlier versions of this patch and
I'm happy with it.  As far as I'm concerned it can be committed as is.
It changes the cloning API again, but does so in a way the brings us
back toward NetBSD which is all to the good.
